Bagmati province has started a website test in preparation for online payment of vehicle tax from July.
The website of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has said that it has started the test work to coordinate the system of paying vehicle tax through the Transport Management Information System (TMIS) and Citizen App .
The ministry issued a notice on Monday and said that to update the details of the vehicle, one can go to the web portal of the Transport Information Pranali and ‘Vehicle Tax’ of the citizen app and enter the details related to the vehicle by verifying their mobile number.
The ministry has not been successful in updating the details of vehicles based on the information on its website.
When updating on the web portal of the ministry, it is seen that some of them have ‘no vehicle linked’, while some of them have yet to pay tax and they have been told to contact the transport office immediately.
Rajan Pokharel, Information Officer of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development , said that this has happened because the state government has started testing for the time being.
“The data of some have been uploaded, while the data of some are yet to be uploaded,” said Pokharel, “we are trying to test this month and implement it from July.”
He said that now they are testing the response of the consumers when the details are updated on the website by releasing the notification.
He said that it still has weaknesses and is looking into it. “Now we have given user ID only to the transport offices,” he said, adding that the data is being uploaded internally.
Pokharel said that there is a plan to pay vehicle tax online from July 1.
The provincial government plans to formally inaugurate the start of the trial after the trial is over and inform the general public that it has gone live. He says that it will take a few more days. He said it depends on how quickly the test is successful.
For the time being, only vehicle tax will be paid. The state government is planning to make arrangements for vehicle registration, name registration, etc. to fill the form from home along with renewal of bill book and driving license. Pokharel said that they are going to take a number as a firm and go to the transport office based on that number to arrange their work.
He says that even if only arrangements can be made to pay taxes for the time being, it will be a great achievement. Along with the ministry’s website, the ‘ride tax’ option is yet to be updated in the citizen app as well.
Once you have to reach the office by transport
Even if the vehicle tax is paid online, the taxpayer has to go to the transport office for one time.
According to the procedure related to online payment, the amount of tax can be paid online and the update of the bill book should reach the transport office within one month for verification.
Once verified, there is no need to visit the transport office from the next financial year.
“In the case of the first financial year, you will have to go to the transport office to update the document, if there are any remaining issues, and to verify,” said Pokharel, “after that, you will not have to verify again.”
He says that even though they are trying to make it not necessary to go to the transport office even once, like paying the water bill, the transport should be reached until all the related documents are digitized.
