Sri Lanka also bans social media as protests against economic crisis intensify

Sri Lanka has banned social media. After the protests against the economic crisis intensified, the government of Sri Lanka banned Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and other social networks along with the curfew.

The users have received messages on their mobiles stating that they have been banned as per the instructions of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.

The President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapakse, has issued a notification and has prohibited anyone from going to any public road, park, train or beach without the written permission of the authorities.

The curfew will be in effect for 36 hours starting from Saturday evening. 664 people were arrested for violating the curfew from 10 pm on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday.
