Alben William Barkley (November 24, 1877 A.D-April 30, 1956 A.D), American statesman and 35th vice president of the United States (1949 A.D-1953 A.D). He was born on November 24, 1877 A.D, in Graves County, Kentucky, and educated at Marvin College (Clinton, Kentucky), Emory College (Oxford, Georgia), and the University of Virginia Law School.
In 1901 A.D Alben W. Barkley was admitted to the Kentucky bar. After holding various county offices in Kentucky, Alben W. Barkley was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1912 A.D and served until 1927 A.D. He was elected U.S. senator from Kentucky for four successive terms beginning in 1927 A.D.
Alben William Barkley was majority leader of the Senate from 1937 A.D to 1947 A.D and minority leader from 1947 A.D to 1949 A.D. In 1948 A.D he was elected U.S. vice president on the Democratic ticket headed by Harry S. Truman. Alben W. Barkley was again elected U.S. senator from Kentucky in 1954 A.D and served until his death on April 30, 1956 A.D.
