Solukhumbu district is in the northernmost of the 14 districts under Province-1. It is a mountainous district located in the lap of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The district is divided into 7 VDCs, 1 municipality (Dudhkund municipality), 2 state constituencies, and 1 federal parliamentary constituency. The scenic peaks and high mountain areas are famous all over the world. This district is also known as Shangrila of tourists.
This district covers Solu (lower terrain) and Khumbu (upper terrain) areas. The district headquarters is located in Salleri, Soludukund Municipality. In the lower part of the district, the indigenous tribes Rais and Chhetris live mainly while the Sherpas live in the high hills. The road in the district has been connected to Salleri district headquarters through Okhaldhunga for the past six years.

The highest elevation of the world from Sagarmatha (8848 m) to Tuintar (600 m) of Nechabetghari VDC is in this district.
